Why do we have product ratings? Easy - our species is one that naturally categorizes things. Just think of it.

Evolutionarily, we evolved as visual creatures. Unlike dogs or ants, we rely primarily on our vision to survive. Although our other sense are also acute, our vision is the key to how we interact in the world. With that in mind, our brain not only receives these visual impulses - it categorizes them. We are natural labelers, and as a result we have developed language to name everything and compare it, as an evolutionary tool to get the best possible deal.

It's just human, and it's just the way we are.

Now with that said, product ratings are really important. Without product ratings, we would not be able to judge and compare one product against another. That is the basis of a free market and economy, and without variety and hierarchy in quality, we would be stuck in a boring place indeed.

So be happy for your ability to judge and for product ratings! Without them, we could very well be ants all just marching in line and eating the same thing...
